I don’t need a man to buy me flowers. I can buy my own.
But I won’t date a man who doesn’t understand effort.
This isn’t about money. It never was.
It’s about intention.

Why This Isn’t About Flowers
Flowers are just a symbol.
They represent thoughtfulness. Consistency. The ability to think about someone and act on it without being prompted.
It’s not the bouquet that matters — it’s the mindset behind it.
Effort Is a Reflection of Intention
When someone puts in effort early, it usually tells you exactly how they’ll show up later.
- Effort looks like planning.
- It looks like following through.
- It looks like wanting to make you feel considered.
And when effort is missing, that’s information too.
Early Effort Sets the Tone
People don’t suddenly become more thoughtful over time — they reveal who they are.
The way someone shows up at the beginning often becomes the blueprint for the relationship. If effort feels optional early on, it usually stays that way.
That’s not pessimism. That’s pattern recognition.
Independence and Standards Can Coexist
You can be independent and still expect effort.
You can buy your own flowers and still want someone who enjoys doing things for you. You can be capable and self-sufficient without settling for bare minimum energy.
Wanting effort doesn’t make you high-maintenance.
It makes you clear.
Final Thoughts
- You’re allowed to want someone who plans.
- Someone who follows through.
- Someone who shows effort without being asked.
Flowers aren’t required — intention is.
Until next time…
xoxo,
Jenna
