How long does it take to get eyelash extensions
The process of applying eyelash extensions can take anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours or more, depending on the desired look and the speed of the technician.
During the process, a technician will attach individual synthetic, mink, or silk extensions to your natural lashes one by one, using a special adhesive.
The technician will start by applying the extensions to the outer corners of your eyes and work inward, carefully placing each extension as close to your natural lash line as possible.
The technician may also trim and shape the extensions to achieve the desired length and curl.

Another factor you might want to consider is the type of eyelash extension.
Type is tied to fullness as well as overall look.
The Classic type will be the most natural looking and the Volume type will be the most dramatic.

Doing your own eyelashes can be a good way to save money (yes, you can have eyelashes on a budget!).
It can also be an option for you if you are too busy to make it to a salon every few weeks, or don’t live near a good eyelash salon.
What products do you need to do your own eyelash extensions?
Before you get started putting on your own lashes, you’ll want to make sure that you have the right supplies on hand.
Steps to do your eyelash extensions from home
To DIY your lashes at home, you’ll need a steady hand and the following items:
- Magnifying mirror with light – here’s a good budget option and this professional-grade one will set you back a bit more but is of excellent quality.
- Precision Tweezers – used to isolate each lash
- Angled Tweezers – used to place each lash extension on your own lash
- Eyelash Extension Glue – you may have to try a few different ones before you find the best eyelash extension glue for your lashes and the humidity level where you live
- Eyelash Extensions in the length, curl, thickness, and type that you desire. You may also have to try different types to find the ones you like best.
- Jade Stone – helps to keep the glue at a cool temperature so it doesn’t dry or harden while you are applying the lashes
- Disposable Eyelash Glue Stickers – helps you to easily dispose of the glue when you are done working
- Disposable Eyelash Brushes – to brush and separate your natural lashes before you apply the extensions
- Eyelash Extension Cleanser – you will need this product whether you do your own lashes or have them professionally done, as dirty eyelash extensions will cause quicker deterioration
Can you do individual eyelash extensions on yourself?
Yes, you can do individual eyelash extensions on yourself to give yourself a lengthy look on a budget.
You will need to have patience and a steady hand though, as it may take a few applications before you really feel comfortable with the process.

Hi Jenna. Love the article. Have you done this at home? If so, was it hard?
Jenna says
Hey Marcie!
Thanks for the comment. As a matter of fact, I actually have done my own DIY eyelash extensions at home before! And to answer your question in short – Yes, it was a little difficult, especially because it was my first time! Some background – I went to the salon for lash extensions while I was in college and ended up loving them but lived too far to go back and have a quick touch-up when they started to fall out…so I went and bought all the supplies to touch up my own. It can be tricky if you don’t have a steady hand. Getting that close to your eyes with precision tweezers can be scary! I remember getting super frustrated but it just takes time and patience. It can take some time to get used to, but I would recommend you block out a couple of hours and be in a relaxed setting while applying them. As mentioned in the article, a close-up mirror, precision tweezers or angled tweezers, and eyelash glue is key to doing these well. Keep in mind, that practice makes perfect!
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Jenna
