We have no problem texting our close friends or our romantic interests, but is it okay to text the people we work with? And what about our boss?

Is it okay to text in the workplace?
Texting is becoming more and more accepted in workplace environments.

Even texting your boss has become the norm and it can be an effective way to resolve something quickly or relay important information in an instant.
Are there any rules for texting in the workplace?
When it comes to texting your friends and significant other, the rules are far and few in-between. But in a business setting, it can be a different story.
There are definitely some general rules you should follow to make sure that you are texting appropriately at work.
Also, check to see if your company has a specific “text messaging policy” in place that can help answer some of your questions and clear up expectations.
Can I text my boss and co-workers after hours?
It’s a good idea to stay away from this practice unless it is an absolute emergency. Especially now, with so many people working remotely, there is often a blurred line between work and after-work hours.
Try to set boundaries and respect others’ free time. Think about whether the question or comment could wait until morning to be addressed or resolved.
If not, then it may be OK to send the text, just try not to make it a habit.

Email has definitely been the standard of communication in the workplace for a long time, but with things, in general, growing more informal and companies adopting policies that are friendlier toward texting, how do you know which method to use in which circumstance?
