At this point in my life, I’m done overanalyzing mixed signals, decoding excuses, or convincing myself that “potential” counts as effort.
I live by three simple rules now. They’re not dramatic. They’re not harsh. They’re just… honest.

And they save me a lot of time.
Rule #1: Love Needs Action
Love isn’t just saying the right things.
- It’s showing up.
- It’s consistency.
- It’s effort when it’s inconvenient.
Anyone can say they care. Not everyone is willing to act like it. I pay attention to behavior, not promises.
If love is real, you’ll feel it without needing reassurance every five minutes.
Rule #2: Trust Needs Proof
Trust is not automatic.
It’s earned.
And it’s maintained.
I don’t believe in blind trust anymore. I believe in patterns. I believe in accountability. I believe in people showing me – over time – that their words and actions match.
Trust grows when someone does what they say they’re going to do. Repeatedly.
Rule #3: “Sorry” Needs Change
An apology without change is just noise.
I don’t care how well someone explains themselves if the behavior stays the same. Real apologies come with different actions, different choices, and actual growth.
If I hear “I’m sorry” but see the same patterns? That tells me everything I need to know.
Why These Rules Matter
These rules aren’t about being guarded or cold. They’re about protecting your peace.
They help you:
- Stop romanticizing bare minimum behavior
- Stop giving endless chances to people who don’t change
- Stop confusing words with effort
- And most importantly, they help you choose yourself without guilt.
Final Thoughts
If someone wants access to your life, your energy, or your heart, these aren’t unreasonable expectations. They’re baseline.
- Love needs action.
- Trust needs proof.
- Sorry needs change.
Everything else is just talk.
Until next time…
xoxo,
Jenna
